You keep me hangin' on... to the monsters – A Baby Scream tale:
Gather 'round, kiddies! So, what do you need to know about rock n roll? It is a force that is beyond ourselves, and every once in a while it chooses a boy or a girl and makes them more than they are and more than they wanna be - it paints a universe outside the realms of the everyday and opens a window to the world of the shadows that lie in between.
It isn't just about Elvis or Janis anymore – rock n roll today is about the stars that you haven't yet heard about, but carry that flame, soul and passion within them. You must seek them out, and find out for yourselves... here's a tip:
Baby Scream!, with influences such as The Replacements, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Teenage Fanclub and Radiohead, from punk in the early days, through to rock, glam, Britpop, ballads and even trash metal until finally arriving at their current intimate 'acoustic-with-strings' sound... just say, Juan!
Baby Scream!, currently based in London, was formed in 2001 by Juan Mazzola in Argentina. Occasionally a solo project, an acoustic duo with Cristian Basualdo (lead guitar) or an electric act, Baby Scream is always about Juan's catharsis, the music coming from a deeply emotional, rock n roll loving soul.
In 2005 the band released a split cd with "The Strange Flowers" from Italy. Having already released many CD's and contributed to several internationally released compilations CDs in the past, Baby Scream's 'Monsters' EP (a true soundtrack to Juan's life, written in 2005) was released in Germany in 2006 through Beyond Your Mind Records, beautifully showcasing Juan's emotional range and diverse songwriting talents.
The story unraveled... you need to catch up! At this point, the band was no longer united, so Juan took his acoustic guitar and started traveling around Europe and the U.S. promoting "Monsters", playing everywhere from a empty pub to a football match in a stadium in Norway for 5000 people... get the news, kids!
Then, in early 2007, Baby Scream (including Cristian again) recorded a new EP called "Ups And Downs", originally an ep including 2 totally unreleased Marc Bolan songs ("Song for a Soldier" and "Reality") became an LP when Juan recorded 4 new songs in Dortmund, Germany with a little help from German friends "The Cheeks" and producer "Bart El Monte".
Also in 2007, the project took Juan to L.A. to record 2 songs with Muddy Stardust (Gilby Clarke, L.A. Guns, Marc Ford) which he later released as an exclusive and limited edition single called "The Riots", selectively given away to people at acoustic shows. You should be so lucky...! During 2007 and 2008 Juan spent some time in London, promoting "Monsters", including a very special night opening for Mark Olson (founding member of "The Jayhawks" and one of Juan's personal heroes) at "The Borderline" and looking for a new label to release "Ups And Downs".
In 2008 Baby Scream got signed to Recorded Recordings Records (U.S.A.) - "Ups And Downs" was released on December 23rd, 2008. 2 videos were shot in Argentina, one for "Mars" (also included in Monsters EP) and one for "Everyday (I Die a Little Bit)".
In late 2008, back in Argentina Baby Scream recorded a song, originally written by Rinando Rafanelli (argentinian bass player / producer of Sui Generis, Polifemo, Color Humano), called "Ojos Orientales". The song, featuring Juan's lyrics in English, is now included on a new EP, also featuring the 2 unreleased Marc Bolan songs, later to be released as an exclusive 7 inch vinyl. At the moment Baby Scream! consists of Juan doing solo acoustic shows, he is not living in the U.K., not living in Argentina, not living in the U.S ... he is just living his music. All hail...!
